Arlington City Council Rejects Chesapeake's Proposed Gas Well Site

BREAKING NEWS
The Arlington City Council tonight rejected Chesapeake Energy's request for proposed gas well site. The Rush Creek site would have been located in southwest Arlington. Details are sketchy at this time on the decision to reject the proposed site. The city council has rejected a number of the company's proposals during the past 18 months. Many residents of the proposed site at the corner of South Bowen Road and West Bardin Road had voiced concerns about safety, noise, traffic and the potential environmental impact a site would have on the neighborhood. Stay tuned for a followup on this story as details become available.

UPDATE:
The Rush Creek site (Bowen and Bardin) was denied approval by a 7-1 vote. The Truman site in north Arlington was unanimously approved for 2 permits.

For Chesapeake, Weak Gas Prices Could Further Quiet Barnett Shale Activity

With currently just 10 rigs drilling in Tarrant county, and one lone drillbit turning in Johnson county, Chesapeake Energy has considerably slowed it's Barnett Shale exploration efforts. In addition to deeply depressed natural gas prices, the Barnett's "dry" gas brings less money at market compared to other shale plays that produce more oil and petroleum liquids.

“Shale Gas Development is a Game-Changer of Huge Proportions”

What They’re Saying: “Shale Gas Development is a Game-Changer of Huge Proportions” | NorthCentralPA.com:

“Shale-Gas Boom Spurs Race”: The boom in low-cost natural gas obtained from shale is driving investment in plants that use gas for fuel or as a raw material, setting off a race by states to attract such factories and the jobs they create. Shale-gas production is spurring construction of plants that make chemicals, plastics, fertilizer, steel and other products. A report issued earlier this month by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC estimated that such investments could create a million U.S. manufacturing jobs over the next 15 years. … “This shale gas development is a game-changer of huge proportions,” said Dan DiMicco, chief executive officer of Nucor Corp., a steelmaker based in Charlotte, N.C. … Because electric utilities often burn gas, that price drop has helped bring down average electricity costs. "That the EPA would blame oil and gas drilling as the reason for including Hood County in the nonattainment area when drilling in this county has declined significantly is just one example where EPA's rhetoric doesn't match reality." - Quote from state Rep Bill Keffer of Eastland.

"Folks in Barnett Shale territory Should Hang on to those Mineral Rights"

Many lessors are keenly aware that owning property in which their mineral rights have been leased to a natural gas producer (lessee) could prove financially advantageous, especially over the long term. However, other mineral owners may be in the dark regarding this "ace in the hole", and might be enticed into selling their rights at a huge discount. Also, if your minerals are included in a producing well(s), the future could be brighter than some might imagine. Report clears fracking blowout at Chesapeake Energy Drill in Pennsylvania

A 179-page report prepared by the SAIC shows "no environmental impact" from a massive "blowout" in April at Chesapeake Energy's Atgas wellsite in Pennsylvania. "This accident was among the most serious that can happen during the completion of an onshore shale-gas well. Yet nobody was injured, the public was never in danger, and there was no lasting impact on the environment, as the analysis shows."

"The safety of hydraulic fracturing is well-documented, with zero confirmed cases of groundwater contamination in 1 million applications over 60 years."

EPA proposes emissions cuts for oil, gas operations

A proposed regulation by the EPA may result in more "green completions" of future gas wells, as well as older wells that are slated for re-fracture. The plan aims at reducing emissions not only at the well site, but to facilities such as processing plants, compressor stations and storage tanks located at the well sites. The EPA applauds this proposed measure stating that "the regulation would not only curb harmful emissions, but save the gas industry tens of millions of dollars annually from the value of natural gas that would no longer escape in the air."
