ENERGY REPORT: Crude Closes Up; Natural Gas Down
May natural gas, the new front month, extended its sell off to a second consecutive session after it closed lower by 3.6% to $4.27 per MMBtu. Forecasts for warmer weather, coupled with profit taking from its ~10% rally in the month of March, pressured prices. May crude oil ended higher by 0.8% to $104.79 per barrel.

Shale gas production competition rages on!
According to the EIA website (U.S. Energy Information Administration), the Haynesville Shale of East Texas and Northwest Louisiana has surpassed the North Texas Barnett Shale as the leading shale gas producer in the United Sates. However it's still a close race.
Will I stop covering the Barnett Shale? Hardly! I believe that shale gas production will continue to dominate the energy scene in all areas for years to come.

Range Resources notched a major victory today with a favorable decision by the Texas Railroad Commission. Today's decision follows an ongoing debate over the EPA's "emergency order" on December 7th holding Range responsible for the methane contamination of two Parker county water wells.
